Members of Parliament gather in Central Hall to bid adieu to the historic Parliament Building.
Delhi: A function was organized in the Central Hall to honor the rich history of the Indian Parliament as Members came together to say goodbye to the historic building before moving into the new Parliament Building. In his speech to the Members of Parliament in the Central Hall, the Vice-President characterized this transition as a shift from a ‘Tryst with Destiny’ to a ‘Tryst with Modernity’ and encouraged all Members to participate in the momentous journey towards India @2047.
The Vice-President pointed out that the revered grounds of the Parliament building have witnessed numerous significant events during its seven-decade journey, all of which still resonate with the aspirations of a billion hearts. Highlighting that the new Parliament building is not only a remarkable piece of architecture but also a testament to the emergence of a self-reliant India, Shri Dhankhar mentioned that it not only represents India’s diverse culture but also stands as a proud symbol of national unity and diversity.
Recollecting the decorum and constructive debates witnessed during the Constituent Assembly’s proceedings, Shri Dhankhar emphasized the importance of emulating the exemplary behavior of India’s founding leaders. Regarding disruptions and disturbances in the Parliament, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha stressed that these actions go against democratic values and underlined the necessity of fostering a spirit of cooperation and consensus in the new Parliament building. He urged everyone to prioritize national interests and work together to make the New Chambers of Parliament the sacred heart of our Democracy.
The Vice-President also praised recent infrastructure achievements in India, including the New Parliament Building, Bharat Mandapam, and Yashobhoomi, as world-class accomplishments that will play a crucial role in shaping India’s future. Recognizing India’s emergence as a global leader in promoting peace, climate action, and economic development alongside other leading nations, Shri Dhankhar commended the leadership for their astute approach, people-centric vision, unwavering dedication, and effective execution, as demonstrated during the impactful G-20 summit hosted by India. He also acknowledged the contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds and the bureaucracy responsible for implementing policies. The gathering was attended by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, Union Ministers and Members of Parliament from various political parties.
