Fitbit to Utilize Google Gemini for AI-Powered Personalized Health Features

New Delhi: During its annual Check Up event on Tuesday, Google announced that Fitbit will soon include health-focused artificial intelligence (AI) features. Instead of adding features for specific tasks within certain workflows, Google Research will collaborate with Fitbit to develop a personal health-focused large language model (LLM) powered by Google’s powerful foundation model, Gemini. Premium users will have the opportunity to test experimental AI features before public release.

Yossi Matias, vice president of engineering and research at Google, said in a blog post, “Fitbit and Google Research are working together to build a personal health large language model that can power personalized health and wellness features in the Fitbit mobile app, which will help people.” Get even more insights and recommendations from data from their Fitbit and Pixel devices.” The AI model is currently undergoing testing and optimization, with no specific timeline provided for releasing features.

Matias explained that the Gemini-backed LLM for Fitbit will provide personalized coaching, actionable messages and guidance. By accessing user data available within Google accounts and Google-branded wearable devices, the AI will provide insights into various aspects of health and wellness. For example, it can analyze sleep patterns and quality to suggest workout intensity adjustments based on the insights gathered.

Additionally, the blog post revealed that Gemini-based AI models are being trained on a diverse set of health signals from high-quality research case studies. Google is collaborating with accredited trainers and wellness experts to conduct the study and collect their data.

Premium Fitbit users will have the opportunity to test these features through Fitbit Labs, similar to Google’s AI Labs, where users can experience and give feedback on the features during the fine-tuning process.
