Google Announces Transition from Chromecast to Google TV Streamer
New Delhi: In a significant shift in its streaming strategy, Google is reportedly phasing out its popular Chromecast TV dongles in favor of a new device, the Google TV Streamer. According to a recent report by 9To5Google, this upcoming streaming device is set to replace the Chromecast, which has been a household staple for streaming media for nearly a decade.
The report unveils several details about the Google TV Streamer, including images that showcase its oval-shaped design, reminiscent of a compact set-top box. This new device appears elongated with a relatively small base, drawing comparisons to a mini Pixel Tablet Charging Speaker Dock. The back of the device features power and HDMI cables, suggesting a straightforward setup process.
One of the standout features of the Google TV Streamer is its support for the Ultra-Wideband-powered Tap to Cast feature, previously seen with the Google Pixel Tablet. This functionality could significantly enhance the streaming experience by enabling seamless casting of content with a simple tap.
The Google TV Streamer also comes with a redesigned remote control, which is notably longer than its Chromecast predecessors. The new remote features a D-Pad, along with dedicated back and home buttons, a microphone button for voice input, and a boldly colored home key button. Additionally, the volume rocker is now positioned on the front, and a mute button has been introduced, enhancing user convenience.
Moreover, the remote includes dedicated shortcut buttons for popular apps like YouTube and Netflix, along with a new ‘Magic’ button, hinting at potential innovative functionalities. With these enhancements, the Google TV Streamer aims to offer a more robust and user-friendly streaming experience, marking a new chapter in Google’s evolution in the streaming market.
