Paris Olympics 2024: Mirabai Chanu Falls Short of Medal in Weightlifting

New Delhi: Indian weightlifter Saikom Mirabai Chanu narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the Paris Olympics 2024, finishing fourth in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event. Chanu recorded a total lift of 199kg, falling just short of the medals.

In a video shared by the Indian Olympic Association, Chanu expressed her disappointment, stating, “I gave my best effort to secure a medal for the country but fell short today. It’s part of the sport—sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I will work harder and aim to perform better in future competitions.”

China’s Hou Zhihui won the gold medal with a total lift of 206kg, while Romania’s Mihaela Valentina Cambei took the silver with 205kg. Thailand’s Surodchana Khambao earned the bronze with a lift of 200kg.

So far, India has secured three bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, all in shooting events.
