BMW Hits Record Half-Year Sales in India, Exceeds 2,000 Electric Car Sales

New Delhi: BMW Group India has achieved its highest-ever half-yearly car sales, with 7,098 units sold in H1 2024. This includes 6,734 BMW models and 364 Mini models. The luxury carmaker’s retail sales grew 21% year-on-year (y-o-y), driven by strong demand for its sports activity vehicles (SAVs), luxury class, and electric cars.
Luxury class models, such as the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7, and BMW XM, saw a 17% y-o-y growth, making up 18% of total sales. The BMW X7 was the highest-selling model in this category.
SAVs contributed 54% to total sales, with a 24% y-o-y increase. The BMW X1 emerged as the best-selling SAV, accounting for 19% of total sales in H1 2024. The top-selling sedan was the BMW 3 Series, holding a 17% share.
BMW sold 397 units of electric BMW and Mini cars in the first six months of 2024, with the BMW i7 leading as the top-selling electric vehicle (EV). Additionally, BMW has crossed the milestone of 2,000 EV sales, making it the first luxury car manufacturer in India to do so. The BMW iX stands out as the most popular luxury EV in India, with over 1,000 units sold.
BMW Group India currently offers six EVs:
BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i5, BMW i4, BMW iX1, and Mini SE. In July, the company will introduce the Mini Countryman E and the BMW CE 04, BMW Motorrad India’s first electric two-wheeler.
BMW Motorrad also performed well, selling 3,614 motorcycles in India in H1 2024.
Operating in India since 2007, BMW Group India has expanded its footprint significantly. Mini entered the market in 2012, and BMW Motorrad commenced operations in April 2017. Today, BMW Group India has a manufacturing plant in Chennai and over 80 touchpoints across the country.
