New Delhi: While the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar are strong contenders in the bustling Indian 3-row SUV market (under ₹30 lakh), the current champion might surprise you. The Mahindra Scorpio, with its bold design and competitive pricing, has emerged as the unexpected leader in this segment.

In May 2024 alone, Mahindra sold a staggering 13,717 units of the Scorpio, solidifying its dominance. These figures encompass both the Scorpio Classic and the recently launched Scorpio-N. Notably, the brand achieved impressive cumulative sales of 141,462 units in FY24, translating to an average of 11,788 units sold monthly – the highest volume driver for Mahindra during that period.

Catering to Diverse Needs with Two Powerful Options

The Mahindra Scorpio caters to a wide range of buyer preferences with two distinct models: the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio-N.

  • Mahindra Scorpio Classic: This value-oriented option is priced between ₹13.62 lakh and ₹17.42 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a single 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel engine generating 132 PS and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While a 4WD option is unavailable, the Classic offers a compelling combination of capability and affordability.
  • Mahindra Scorpio-N: The Scorpio-N caters to those seeking more power and versatility. It boasts two engine options: a 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine churning out 203 PS and 370/380 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre mHawk CRDi diesel engine offering 175 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines come with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission choices. Additionally, a less powerful 132 PS and 300 Nm diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox is available. The Scorpio-N raises the bar further with the inclusion of a 4WD option, ideal for off-road enthusiasts.

Mahindra’s SUV Dominance Continues

With the success of the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N, Mahindra maintains its position as India’s largest SUV manufacturer. Their extensive portfolio also includes popular models like the new XUV 3XO, Bolero, Bolero Neo, Thar, and the XUV700, offering a diverse range of options for SUV buyers across various segments.
