New Delhi: The compact SUV segment in India, long dominated by established players like Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon, has a new contender making waves. The Mahindra XUV 3XO, launched just in April, has impressed in its first month of sales, outselling popular choices like the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

Mahindra’s aim with the XUV 3XO is clear: to carve a significant space in the highly competitive compact SUV market. And going by the initial sales figures, they seem to be on the right track. In May 2024, the XUV 3XO clocked a commendable 10,510 units, surpassing the Hyundai Venue (9,327 units) and Kia Sonet (7,433 units). The segment leader, however, remains the Maruti Suzuki Brezza with 14,186 units sold, followed by the Tata Nexon at 11,457 units.

Developed with an investment of Rs 650 crore, the XUV 3XO boasts a competitive starting price of Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. This new SUV comes with three engine choices: a 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi petrol engine (111PS/200Nm), a more powerful 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi petrol engine (130PS/230Nm), and a 1.5-litre CRDe diesel engine (117PS/300Nm). Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) and a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT) for the petrol variants, while the diesel variant gets a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
