Maruti Suzuki Swift tops car sales in India for May 2024
New Delhi: The Maruti Suzuki Swift continues its dominance in the Indian car market, emerging as the top-selling car for May 2024. This marks a triumphant return for the fourth-generation Swift, which has already garnered close to 40,000 bookings since its launch last month.
Maruti Suzuki sold a staggering 19,393 units of the Swift in May, surpassing rivals like the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, and Hyundai Creta. This robust performance can be attributed to the Swift’s enduring popularity and the much-anticipated launch of its latest iteration.
The new Swift boasts a modern design and a competitive price tag, ranging from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). While it directly competes with hatchbacks like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios in terms of body style, it also attracts buyers seeking micro-SUVs like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Venue due to its similar price point.
Powering the Swift is the new Z-Series 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine, churning out 82 PS of max power and 112 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with the option of a 5-speed manual transmission (MT) or a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki reports that 83% of bookings have been for the MT variants, indicating a continued preference for manual gearboxes in the Indian market.
Fuel efficiency remains a key selling point for the Swift. The MT variant boasts an impressive mileage of 24.8 kilometers per liter (kmpl), while the AMT variant delivers an even more economical 25.75 kmpl. This combination of strong performance, fuel efficiency, and competitive pricing solidifies the Maruti Suzuki Swift’s position as a leader in the Indian car market.
