Mini Cooper: 5 Doors, Big Fun !
New Delhi: Mini has unveiled details for the all-new 5-door Cooper hatchback, offering increased practicality for drivers seeking the iconic Mini style. While an official launch date for India is yet to be announced, Mini India has recently begun accepting bookings for the Countryman EV SUV and the Cooper S 3-door hatchback, hinting at the 5-door’s potential arrival soon.
More Space, More Choice
The new 5-door Cooper builds upon the 3-door model, offering a stretched design for improved functionality. This translates to a more spacious interior with a comfortable five-seat layout, replacing the 3-door’s four-seater configuration. The extended length also translates to increased cargo capacity, providing 65 liters more space for luggage compared to the previous 5-door model.
Performance Options
The 5-door Cooper retains the driving excitement associated with the Mini brand. Two petrol engine options are available:
- Cooper C: This entry-level option boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering 154 horsepower and 230Nm of torque.
- Cooper S: Opt for the Cooper S for a more powerful driving experience. This model features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 204 horsepower and 300Nm of torque.
Both engine choices come paired exclusively with an automatic gearbox, as Mini phased out manual transmissions from the lineup last year.
Electric Alternative
While the 5-door Cooper focuses on petrol engines, Mini offers the electric Aceman EV in select markets for those seeking a zero-emission option. Built on the same platform as the electric 3-door Cooper, the Aceman caters to drivers seeking both practicality and sustainability.
Production and Legacy
The 5-door Cooper will be produced alongside its petrol counterpart at Mini’s Oxford plant. This facility is currently undergoing upgrades to prepare for the production of the electric Cooper and Aceman in 2026. The upcoming Mini Convertible, the final model in the brand’s lineup refresh, will also be assembled at Oxford. The 5-door marks the final car unveiled under the leadership of Mini CEO Stefanie Wurst before she steps down and is replaced by Stefan Richmann, BMW’s corporate strategy boss.
Indian Arrival Expected
While details regarding the official launch date in India are still pending, Mini India is expected to introduce the new 5-door Cooper to the market. The predecessor, the third-generation model, was previously available in India but has since been discontinued.
