Tata Harrier, Safari Win Top Safety Award from GNCAP 2024: Best in Class Protection

New Delhi: Global NCAP (GNCAP) has awarded Tata’s Harrier and Safari SUVs with the prestigious Safer Choice award. This is the highest recognition given by GNCAP, provided the vehicles meet specific safety standards.

Harrier and Safari Achieve 5-Star Safety Rating

Both the Harrier and Safari underwent crash testing by GNCAP in 2023 and secured a 5-star safety rating for both adult and child protection. Tata Motors has further submitted these models for testing compliance with additional safety features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), speed assistance, and blind-spot detection systems.

GNCAP Safer Choice Award Criteria

To qualify for the Safer Choice award, vehicles must demonstrate top-tier safety performance. Along with a 5-star safety rating, the vehicle must include an AEB system for car-to-car and vulnerable road user detection. Additionally, it must meet the United Nations’ regulatory safety requirements.

Other mandatory features for the award include a speed assistance system, a full score on GNCAP’s test, and offering blind spot detection as a standalone feature.

David Ward, president of the Towards Zero Foundation, praised Tata Motors for their dedication to safety and expressed delight in presenting the first Safer Choice awards to the Harrier and Safari.

Crash Test Results for Tata Harrier and Safari

In GNCAP’s crash tests, both SUVs scored 33.05 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points for child protection, achieving the highest scores recorded in any GNCAP test so far.

GNCAP also noted the stability of the body shells for both vehicles, highlighting their ability to withstand additional impacts without compromising safety.

Safety Features in Tata Harrier and Safari

Both the Tata Harrier and Safari come equipped with advanced safety features such as seven airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a 360-degree camera with blind view monitoring. The top variants also offer an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite. These SUVs have also passed the Bharat NCAP protocols, further affirming their 5-star safety ratings.

Tata’s continued commitment to vehicle safety sets a benchmark in the industry, making the Harrier and Safari standout choices in the SUV segment.
