New Delhi: Despite its discontinuation, the Tata Nano continues to captivate car enthusiasts with its unique appeal and affordability. Given the rising popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, the idea of reviving the Nano as an EV presents an exciting opportunity for Tata Motors. This article delves into the potential feasibility of a Tata Nano EV, exploring its ideal pricing, range, features, and safety standards.

If Tata introduces the Nano EV, the ideal price range would be between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh.

For the Nano EV to be practical, it should offer a range exceeding 200 km. A Pune-based company, Electra EV, has already developed a retrofitted Nano EV, but range and performance details are not yet available. Notably, Ratan Tata owns one of these units. The 2010 concept predicted a range of up to 160 km. However, advancements in EV battery technology over the last 14 years could see ranges surpassing 200 km.

While the feature list for the Nano EV is yet to be confirmed, the company would need to include:

  • Touchscreen infotainment system
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • All four power windows
  • Semi-digital driver’s display
  • Manual AC

Meeting today’s safety standards, the Nano EV should be equipped with:

  • Dual front airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • Rear parking sensors
  • A rear parking camera would be a welcome addition.

The Nano EV would directly compete with the MG Comet EV. Other Tata EV options include the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV.

The Nano EV, with a practical range and modern features, could continue the legacy of the iconic Nano in the electric vehicle market.
