“Election Commission issues notice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Himanta Biswa Sarma”
In the latest political twist, the Election Commission has issued show cause notices to two prominent figures of Indian politics. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are in the headlines for separate incidents.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra finds herself in the hot seat for alleged election code of conduct violations during her campaign in Rajasthan. The BJP filed a complaint against him, claiming that he took advantage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s religious beliefs to make baseless claims. During a speech, he mentioned an envelope containing Modi’s donation which when opened reportedly contained only Rs 21. He later criticized the BJP for making empty promises in “envelopes”.
Along with this, the Election Commission served a show cause notice to Himanta Biswa Sarma for his remarks targeting Chhattisgarh minister Mohammad Akbar during an assembly election campaign.
Both the leaders have time till October 30 to respond to these notices.
