Aamir Khan Announces Retirement, Hands Over Production Company to Son Junaid

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, has quietly made his Bollywood debut in Yash Raj Films’ Maharaj. However, Junaid isn’t confining his talents to acting alone; he’s also venturing into film production. In a recent interview, Junaid discussed Aamir Khan’s contemplation of retirement and the transition of responsibilities at Aamir Khan Productions (AKP). The young actor-producer revealed that during this period, Aamir asked him to take over the reins of the production house, entrusting him with the upcoming project Pritam Pyaare.

In one of the interview , Junaid shared insights into his experience on film sets, including his behind-the-camera work on PK and shooting commercials. These experiences have provided him with a solid understanding of film production. After completing the shoot for Maharaj, Junaid began working with AKP, marking the start of his journey in production. He recalled Aamir’s request, saying, “Dad was going through this whole ‘I-am-retiring’ phase,” and decided it was the right time for Junaid to take charge.

Junaid described production as one of the toughest aspects of filmmaking, despite his decent grasp of the process. He also touched upon his parents’ reactions to his debut. While Aamir Khan appreciated the film, calling him an “easy audience,” his mother, Reena Dutta, proved to be a tougher critic. Junaid mentioned that Aamir visited the Maharaj set only once, accompanied by his three grandparents, and watched the film directly after its completion.

Reflecting on his father’s career, Junaid acknowledged Aamir’s mix of successes and less favorable projects. He noted that Aamir’s last major hit was Secret Superstar in 2017, with his subsequent film, Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of Forrest Gump, failing at the box office and receiving mixed reviews. Junaid’s foray into production marks a new chapter for AKP as he steps into a pivotal role amidst Aamir Khan’s retirement considerations.
