Ajay Devgn’s Latest Film Faces Disappointing Opening Weekend Collection
New Delhi: Ajay Devgn has been a mainstay in Hindi cinema, known for his strong box office presence. Over the past decade, his films have generally enjoyed successful openings, reflecting his enduring star power. However, his latest film, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, directed by Neeraj Pandey and co-starring Tabu, stands out as a rare underperformer in his career. The movie recorded a mere Rs 6.75 crore in its opening weekend, marking Ajay’s lowest start in ten years, according to Sacnilk.
This modest opening contrasts sharply with his previous box office track record. For instance, in 2014, Ajay starred in two films with notable weekend collections: Action Jackson at Rs 29.3 crore and Singham Returns at a robust Rs 77.74 crore. The following years continued this trend of strong openings, with Drishyam in 2015 earning Rs 23.25 crore and Shivaay in 2016 pulling in Rs 37.65 crore during its debut weekend.
Ajay’s diverse filmography includes hits like Golmaal Again (Rs 87.6 crore in 2017) and the critically acclaimed Raid (Rs 40.98 crore in 2018). Even his comedies, such as De De Pyaar De and Total Dhamaal, performed well, with the latter grossing Rs 62.4 crore in 2019. His period drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero dominated the box office in 2020, earning Rs 61.93 crore.
Despite a challenging pandemic period, Ajay returned with Runway 34 in 2022, collecting Rs 14.8 crore, and Thank God, which amassed Rs 18.25 crore during its opening. His recent releases, including Drishyam 2 and Bholaa, also performed admirably. As Ajay gears up for the release of Singham Again later this year, expectations are high for a significant box office rebound, potentially marking one of the biggest openings of his career.
