Apurva movie review:The thriller Apurva receives commendable performances from Tara Sutaria, Rajpal Yadav, and Abhishek Banerjee
Delhi: Disney Plus Hotstar has now come up with the film Apurva, which stars Tara Sutaria in the lead role. Apurva (Tara Sutaria), hailing from Gwalior, decides to surprise her fiance Sidharth (Dhairya Karwa) on his birthday. Sidharth is a bank employee working in Agra. When Apurva is traveling on a bus to Agra, a group of goons attack the bus driver just because he didn’t let them pass the bus. The goons kill the driver and start looting the passengers. Apurva refuses to give her mobile to them, and the goons abduct her. How she manages to escape from the goons forms the crux of the story.
Tara Sutaria, typically known for her glamorous roles, pleasantly surprises audiences with her outstanding performance in Apurva. Despite the challenging nature of her character, Sutaria handles it with finesse, earning cheers from the audience during moments of rebellion.
The film revolves around a woman facing unexpected challenges and bravely confronting them on her own. Apurva’s core concept is strong, and in a way, it serves as an inspirational narrative for women, encouraging them to face formidable challenges with courage.
Abhishek Banerjee delivers a compelling performance, as expected. Rajpal Yadav, Sumit Galati, and Aaditya meet the expectations. With a runtime of around 90 minutes, the movie maintains a brisk pace throughout.
The main drawback of Apurva is that the film is predictable right from the beginning, which shouldn’t be the case for a survival thriller. We can guess the scenes from miles away, and this takes out the excitement. The tension is not maintained throughout, and the characters apart from Tara Sutaria are underdeveloped. We are shown very little about the antagonists, and it would have been better if the other characters were shown in a detailed manner.
The film is frustrating on various fronts, particularly in Abhishek Banerjee’s portrayal. Known for his versatility, Banerjee’s commitment to this character occasionally breaks through the facade of a superficial villain, but lacks the depth seen in his previous roles.
Rajpal Yadav portrays the stoic leader of the gang, whose authority is constantly challenged by a younger, more dominant member. Regardless of the ambiguous nature of his position, Yadav brings an old-world honesty to the character, his occasional stern expressions hinting at the intricate mix of emotions involved in eliminating a presumed formidable regional criminal boss. His sudden bursts of emotion and detached involvement in the gang’s endeavors reveal a deeply insecure man experiencing a midlife crisis, potentially grappling with erectile dysfunction.
