Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction wins the hearts of the audience in Toronto International Film Festival 2023.

Delhi: The annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) closed on 17 September after a successful two-week run of buzzy world premieres and screenings of previous favourites from the circuit. The festival’s top prize, the People’s Choice Award, was bagged by filmmaker Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction.

The film is based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett and stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Sterling K Brown, Myra Lucretia Taylor, John Ortiz, Issa Rae, and Adam Body among others.

The Boy and the Heron were the first and second runners up in the People’s Choice Award at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival, which ran from September 7 to September 17. Mr Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe won the People’s Choice Award for Documentaries. Summer Camp came in first place, and Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhapka Sherpa came in second place. The main goal of the TIFF awards was to recognize the film industry’s top performers.

Jefferson, who has been a writer on “Succession” and “Watchmen,” made his feature directorial debut with the movie and wrote the screenplay. It is based on Percival Everett’s 2001 novel, “Erasure.” MGM is releasing the film this year.
