Farhan Akhtar Chooses Ranveer Singh Over Shah Rukh Khan for ‘Don 3’
New Delhi: ‘Don 3’ announcement has sent waves of excitement through fans, as Farhan Akhtar prepares to bring a new chapter to the beloved ‘Don’ series. In a surprising move, Ranveer Singh has been cast in the iconic role previously portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan. Farhan Akhtar, who directed the first two films featuring Khan, is enthusiastic about this casting choice, seeing it as a fresh challenge and a step into a new era for the franchise.
In a recent conversation with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Akhtar shed light on his decision to cast Ranveer Singh. He explained that the role of Don required a “next-generation actor” who could infuse the character with new energy and depth. He praised Singh for his charisma, mischievousness, and boundless energy, qualities he believes will bring a unique flavor to the character. Akhtar highlighted that while Singh is known for his louder, more flamboyant roles, ‘Don 3’ will push him to explore a subtler, more controlled performance, akin to his work in ‘Lootera.’
Addressing why Shah Rukh Khan isn’t returning for the third installment, Akhtar revealed that creative differences over the script led to their decision to part ways. Despite their best efforts to collaborate, they couldn’t find common ground on the direction of the story, leading to a mutual agreement to move forward separately.
The teaser for ‘Don 3,’ released in August 2023, introduced audiences to Ranveer Singh’s interpretation of the character, marking the beginning of a new era for the franchise. With filming set to commence in 2025 and Kiara Advani joining the cast in a lead role, Farhan Akhtar is eagerly looking forward to this exciting new chapter in the ‘Don’ saga.
