Rima Das’ ‘Village Rockstars 2’ Nominated for Kim Jiseok Award at Busan International Film Festival

New Delhi: Rima Das’ “Village Rockstars 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to her 2017 critically acclaimed film, has been selected to compete for the prestigious Kim Jiseok Award at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). This selection marks another significant achievement for Das, who has been a prominent figure in Indian independent cinema.

“Village Rockstars 2” follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, “Village Rockstars,” which garnered international acclaim after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. The original film went on to win several National Awards in India, including Best Feature Film, and was chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards in 2019. The sequel is expected to continue the story of resilience, dreams, and the rural way of life that resonated with audiences worldwide in the first film.

The Busan International Film Festival, one of Asia’s most prestigious film festivals, will showcase “Village Rockstars 2” as part of its Jiseok Competition section, which highlights innovative and artistic films from across Asia. According to a press release, the film is the only Indian feature among the eight films selected for this competition, underscoring its significance on the international stage.

The 29th edition of the Busan International Film Festival is set to begin on October 2, 2024, and the inclusion of “Village Rockstars 2” in the competition is expected to draw significant attention to Indian cinema. Rima Das’ continued success in the international film circuit further establishes her as a leading voice in contemporary filmmaking, and the film’s selection is a testament to the global appeal and storytelling prowess of Indian cinema.
