Telangana Government Adviser Suggests Ban on Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has pledged to consider a ban on the release of Kangana Ranaut’s forthcoming film Emergency after a meeting with Sikh community leaders. The assurance came following a request for the ban made by a delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon.

On Thursday, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, a government adviser, disclosed that the Chief Minister’s commitment was made pending further legal consultation. The 18-member delegation presented a representation at the Secretariat, highlighting their concerns about the film’s portrayal of the Sikh community.

The Sikh leaders have expressed deep apprehension regarding the film’s depiction, which they believe could adversely affect the community’s image and sentiments. Their request underscores the broader issue of how films handle sensitive cultural and historical subjects, particularly when it involves minority communities.

Emergency is directed by and stars Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken views and controversial roles. The film’s content has stirred debate, prompting scrutiny and calls for action from various quarters.

The Telangana government’s response reflects a willingness to address the concerns of the Sikh community and to ensure that any cultural or social implications of the film are carefully reviewed. The final decision on whether to implement a ban will hinge on the outcomes of the ongoing legal consultation and further discussions with relevant stakeholders.
