2 Killed, 20 Hurt in Mumbai-Bound Train Derailment in Jharkhand
New Delhi: In a tragic incident early this morning, two people lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries after 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Badabamboo, approximately 80 km from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The derailment occurred at around 3:45 am, prompting immediate rescue and relief efforts from local authorities and emergency teams.
According to West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is currently overseeing operations at the site, the derailed coaches included 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car. Rescue teams, including an NDRF unit, have been dispatched to the location to assist with the operation. The injured passengers received first aid from the Railways’ medical team and were subsequently transported to Chakradharpur for further treatment.
Senior Railways official Om Prakash Charan noted that a nearby goods train had also derailed around the same time. However, it remains unclear whether these two incidents are connected. The investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment is ongoing.
In response to the accident, several trains on this route have either been canceled or diverted to ensure passenger safety and facilitate the ongoing rescue efforts. Additionally, buses have been arranged to transport affected passengers to their destinations.
The Railways and local authorities are working together to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance to those impacted.
