Anganwadi Workers Trained in Health, Nutrition, and Digital Safety

Delhi- A one-day training and awareness camp for 83 Anganwadi workers of Aizawl Rural Block was successfully conducted by STI Hub Mizoram at the Synod Conference Centre. The initiative aimed to enhance their knowledge and skills in health, nutrition, digital safety, and Ayurveda-based well-being to better serve their communities.
The event was attended by Dr. Lalnilawma, Minister of State for Rural Development, Mizoram, as the Chief Guest, and Mrs. Zoramthangi Chhangte, Director of Women & Child Development, Mizoram, as the Guest of Honour. They emphasized the crucial role Anganwadi workers play in child and maternal health and the need for continuous learning in the face of prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat.
Dr. Raghu Raman, Principal Investigator of the STI Hub project from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala, also participated in the event, and shared the vision of the project and the role that Anganwadi workers play in accomplishing that.
Key Focus Areas
The training covered:
Essential Nutrition & Hygiene – Improving maternal and child health through proper dietary practices.
Locally Available Nutrient-Rich Foods – Addressing malnutrition using regional food sources.
Anemia Prevention – Identifying and combating anemia in pregnant and lactating mothers.
Digital Safety for Children – Equipping workers with strategies to protect children in the digital age.
Ayurvedic Health Practices – Introducing holistic lifestyle principles for overall well-being.
A highlight of the event was the demonstration of value-added food products developed using locally sourced ingredients. Participants sampled Moringa-Jaggery Cookies, Ginger-Perilla Bites, and Soya Nutriballs, which were praised for their health benefits and taste. STI Hub aims to train youth and self-help groups in producing these items to support local livelihoods.
The event received significant attention and was covered by local print and news media, highlighting the growing emphasis on empowering frontline workers for better community health.
The training was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Women & Child Development, Mizoram, under the STI-ITLIVES project, a joint initiative of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Mizoram University, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The program marked a significant step toward strengthening community health initiatives in Mizoram by equipping frontline workers with essential knowledge and skills.
