AWS

New Delhi: Amazon Web Services (AWS) India Pvt. Ltd. is accelerating India’s digital transformation by enabling the National Health Authority (NHA), Government e-Marketplace (GeM), and public sector banks to build scalable and secure cloud-based solutions. These innovations aim to support the country’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision, an initiative focused on India’s development by the centenary of its Independence.

Revolutionizing Healthcare with AWS and NHA

The National Health Authority (NHA) is utilizing AWS technology to create an open digital health ecosystem for India. AWS is helping NHA provide integrated healthcare infrastructure to more than 1.4 billion people. With AWS’s scalable services, NHA is strengthening critical modules for flagship programs such as Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

NHA’s use of AWS powers applications like the Beneficiary Identification System and the Transaction Management System, crucial for ensuring secure claim transaction management. As of now, over 354 million Ayushman cards have been issued, 68 million hospitalizations have been covered, and 30,000 hospitals are empaneled across 25 states and 8 union territories.

AWS Empowering Government e-Marketplace (GeM)

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM), the second-largest public procurement platform in the world, has partnered with AWS to scale its cloud infrastructure. GeM plays a crucial role in enhancing transparency and efficiency in public procurement, offering features like bidding, price matching, and demand aggregation. AWS cloud services support GeM’s massive user base, with the platform witnessing 9,000 page views per second and ₹1,000 crore in daily gross merchandise value.

GeM’s technology vision is focused on digital transformation by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI. AWS’s robust infrastructure enables GeM to enhance user experience, ensuring customer-centric services and fostering data-driven decision-making.

Transforming Public Sector Banks with AWS

In addition, AWS has been empaneled by the Public Sector Bank Alliance (PSBA), an umbrella organization formed by 12 public sector banks. AWS offers flexible cloud computing services to help these banks enhance their customer-oriented services as part of the EASE agenda (Enhanced Access and Service Excellence) set forth by the Indian government.

Supporting India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision

At the AWS Empower India event, themed around Viksit Bharat 2047, Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon.com, emphasized the need for scalable and efficient digital systems in India, a country with a population of 1.4 billion. He introduced the concept of the Frugal Architect, a method of designing cost-effective and sustainable digital solutions. Dr. Vogels expressed his admiration for Indian builders and organizations who are transforming these challenges into opportunities for innovation.

Pankaj Gupta, AWS India’s Public Sector Leader, stated, “India’s public sector is laying the foundation for the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision through initiatives powered by cloud and AI technologies.” He highlighted AWS’s role in co-innovating solutions across healthcare, education, and financial inclusion.

AWS’s Massive Investment in India’s Digital Infrastructure

AWS is committed to supporting India’s technology growth. Between 2016 and 2022, AWS invested more than $3.7 billion in India’s cloud infrastructure and plans to add $12.7 billion by 2030. This investment solidifies AWS’s position as a major enabler of India’s digital future.

AWS’s Broader Role in India’s Digital Development

AWS’s involvement extends to several key government projects. For instance, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) uses AWS to run the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), which aims to skill 800 million Indians. Another key project, the Swachh Bharat Mission, uses AWS technology for real-time monitoring, IoT solutions, and business intelligence. AWS also powers India’s Co-WIN platform, ensuring seamless vaccination tracking and certificate generation for millions.
