Champai Soren Chosen as Next Jharkhand CM Amid Hemant Soren’s ED Arrest Speculations

New Delhi: Jharkhand Transport Minister Champai Soren has been selected as the next Chief Minister of Jharkhand, succeeding Hemant Soren. Hemant Soren stepped down amid speculation of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Jharkhand minister Banna Gupta confirmed the decision, stating, “We have chosen Champai Soren as the leader of the Legislative Party. We came to the Raj Bhawan to request the Governor for the oath ceremony.”

Congress MLA Rajesh Thakur announced, “CM Hemant Soren has decided to resign. Champai Soren has been chosen as the new leader of the Legislative party… All the MLAs are with us.”

Amidst high drama in Ranchi, security was tightened, and Section 144 was imposed around Hemant Soren’s residence during his questioning by the ED. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha workers staged protests against the central agency’s actions.

Hemant Soren also filed an FIR against ED officials over searches conducted at his Delhi residence, alleging harassment and an attempt to defame him and his community.

Champai Soren, known for his significant role in the movement for the creation of Jharkhand, will take on the role of Chief Minister as the political landscape in the state changes.
