Defence Ministry Greenlights 6,400 Rockets for Pinaka Weapon System

New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has given the green light for the procurement of 6,400 new rockets for the Pinaka weapon system deployed along the borders with Pakistan and China, sources report.

This anticipated approval, valued at over Rs 2,600 crore, will involve Indian firms exclusively, with Solar Industries and Munitions India Limited being frontrunners for the contract. The Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) is an indigenous artillery system designed for all-weather, indirect area fire, delivering a large volume of firepower against critical targets.

The system, equipped with quick response capabilities and high pointing accuracy, can efficiently engage time-sensitive enemy targets. The Pinaka MBRL incorporates critical subsystems developed in-country, including the Servo System and Fire Control system. This move underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its indigenous defence capabilities and promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
