Delhi-NCR residents worried as diesel generator ban to kick in.

Delhi: Hundreds of apartment residents in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram have expressed their disagreement with the ban on diesel generators in the National Capital Region (NCR) from October 1.The restriction, which will apply to all districts in the National Capital Region such as Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram, was ordered by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)

The ban on operating diesel generator (DG) sets with a capacity of 19 kW or above will kick in from October 1, Sunday, in Delhi-NCR unless these have been equipped with retrofitted emission control devices or dual fuel kits.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) mandated DGs be changed to dual fuel mode (diesel+gas) and install retrofit emission control devices (RECD) to reduce particulate matter (PM).

The agency had set September 30 as the deadline for apartment owners to change their diesel generators to CNG-based ones. The rise in pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region during winter compelled the agency to pass such an order.
