Disturbing Revelations Unveiled: IIT-BHU Sexual Assault Accused Linked to Multiple Campus Molestations

New Delhi: In a shocking development at IIT-BHU, three persons arrested on charges of sexual harassment on November 1 revealed during police interrogation that they were involved in three additional incidents of molestation on the campus. The accused, identified as Kunal Pandey (28), Saksham Patel (20) and Abhishek Chauhan (22), revealed that they were actively looking for “opportunities” between 11 pm and 1 am. Used to come to the campus regularly.

Analysis of his call detail records revealed his frequent presence on the premises during the hours mentioned in the investigation. The accused were caught by the Varanasi police following a tip-off on December 31, after they allegedly fled the city as the students’ protests intensified.

While the police initially received a complaint from the woman targeted in the November 1 incident, the accused confessed to molesting three other people on the campus, including the October 30 incident. The dean of the institute confirmed that a complaint related to the October 30 incident was received. Proctor’s office, and action was being taken.

The accused, accused under various sections of the IPC, including rape, managed to escape detection for a long time because the intermittent use of the phone was causing problems in location tracking. However, on December 31, a tip-off led to his apprehension.

Notably, the accused’s alleged links with the BJP have created controversy in his neighbourhood. Locals claim that his political connections allowed him to avoid the consequences of his actions. Both Pandey and Patel, according to their Facebook profiles, associate themselves with the BJP, with Pandey identified as the party’s Varanasi (Metropolitan) IT cell coordinator and Patel as the co-coordinator. Raising even more eyebrows, Pandey said that he was married to the daughter of a local BJP councillor.

The accused are said to have revealed during interrogation about their temporary transfer and subsequent return to Varanasi, believing that the matter had been put to rest. The case has raised concerns about campus security and the need for stringent measures to ensure the well-being of students in educational institutions.
