ED’s Madurai Office Raided: Tamil Nadu Officials Accused of Stealing Sensitive Documents

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a complaint with Tamil Nadu’s DGP, alleging an illegal raid by vigilance officials in their Madurai office. Following the arrest of Ankit Tiwari, an ED officer, the DVAC conducted a search on December 1. The ED claims that unauthorized individuals, including DVAC officials, entered their office, stayed overnight, and accessed sensitive case records unrelated to Tiwari’s case. The ED officer accused the DVAC of ‘ransacking’ their office, opening unrelated case files, and stealing internal documents.

The ED’s letter to the DGP highlighted the lack of search warrants and the unauthorized presence of individuals, with concerns raised about the potential misuse of accessed documents. The agency requested the registration of an FIR against DVAC officials and unauthorized personnel for offenses like criminal trespass, theft of documents, and illegal access to sensitive records.

This clash between the central agency and state officials has raised tensions, especially given ongoing investigations involving high-profile individuals in the state government. The incident marks a contentious point in the relationship between the DMK government and the BJP-led Union government. The ED’s allegations of illegal actions during the raid intensify the already heated exchanges between the two entities.
