India Commissions 2nd Nuclear-Powered Missile Submarine in Rajnath Singh’s Presence
New Delhi: India has taken a significant step in bolstering its naval capabilities with the commissioning of its second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arighaat, into the Navy. The commissioning ceremony took place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday, in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This addition to India’s naval fleet is expected to further strengthen the country’s nuclear triad and enhance its nuclear deterrence.
Speaking at the event, Defence Minister Singh highlighted the importance of INS Arighaat in India’s strategic defense framework. He emphasized that the submarine will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and sovereignty of the nation, particularly by reinforcing the nuclear triad—India’s three-pronged nuclear capability consisting of land-based missiles, air-based assets, and sea-based deterrents.
INS Arighaat is the second of the Arihant-Class submarines, following the induction of INS Arihant. According to the Defence Ministry, INS Arighaat incorporates several technological advancements that make it significantly more advanced than its predecessor. These indigenously developed enhancements reflect India’s growing expertise in submarine technology and its commitment to self-reliance in defense production.
The commissioning of INS Arighaat marks a milestone in India’s naval history, as it enhances the country’s ability to maintain credible nuclear deterrence, a key component of its defense strategy. With this addition, India continues to assert its position as a formidable maritime power, capable of protecting its interests in the region and beyond. The submarine is expected to play a pivotal role in maintaining strategic stability in the Indian Ocean region.
