India Lifts Suspension on E-Visas for Canadians.
Delhi: After a hiatus stemming from diplomatic tensions, India has restarted its electronic visa services for Canadian nationals. This move comes following a nearly two-month suspension prompted by strained relations triggered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statements regarding a potential link between Indian government agents and the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The suspension, initiated in September, saw India halting visa issuances and seeking parity in diplomatic presence. Amidst tit-for-tat expulsions of senior diplomats and escalating tensions, India has now reinstated e-visa services, signaling a potential easing of strained ties.
While India denies Trudeau’s allegations as baseless and motivated, the resumption of e-visas for Canadian tourists and business travellers marks a significant step toward restoring normalcy in bilateral relations between the two nations.
