India’s First AI Teacher, Iris, Debuts in Kerala School: Here’s What You Should Know
New Delhi: In an unprecedented development for education in India, a school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala has introduced Iris, the country’s first AI teacher. Developed by Maker Labs and powered by Generative AI, Iris is set to redefine the learning landscape by providing a truly personalized educational experience.
The launch of Iris is a significant milestone in the field of education, demonstrating the potential of artificial intelligence to revolutionize traditional teaching methods. Iris was unveiled with great enthusiasm at KTCT Higher Secondary School in Kerala, the robot soon became the students’ “closest friend”. Dr K Rajeev, Director, Space Physics Laboratory (SPL), VSSC, inaugurated Iris highlighting the importance of integrating advanced technology in the education sector.
Iris’s capabilities go beyond traditional teaching methods, as the robot can listen, interact, and respond to students’ questions in real time. Impressively, classes run by Iris saw zero absences, underscoring students’ positive reception to this innovative learning approach.
Currently equipped with proficiency in English, Hindi and Malayalam, Iris is set to expand her linguistic capabilities to over 20 languages in the future. Additionally, Iris incorporates advanced filtering mechanisms to block inappropriate content, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
