Caldwell Parish Funeral Home & Crematory confirmed Marburger’s passing, a day after his family shared the heartbreaking news on a GoFundMe page.
Marburger, who was seriously injured during the shooting, displayed remarkable bravery and selflessness when he saved the students from the attacker’s bullets. An 11-year-old middle school student was tragically killed and six others were injured in the attack, which began in the school cafeteria. The 17-year-old attacker later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The state Department of Public Safety recognized Marburger’s heroism, saying he “acted selflessly and put himself in harm’s way in an apparent effort to protect his students.” News of his passing sparked an outpouring of grief and support across social media platforms, with the Perry community expressing condolences and gratitude for his sacrifice.
