Jaishankar Highlights Education as India’s Tool for Intensified Global Involvement

New Delhi: India views education as a pivotal instrument for enhancing its global engagement, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Speaking at an event on Thursday, Jaishankar emphasized that education has become a “key vehicle” for India to accelerate more intensive interactions with the rest of the world. His remarks came during the handover of a Letter of Intent to the University of Southampton, which is set to establish a campus in India under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Jaishankar highlighted the significance of this development, noting that it marks a crucial milestone in international education within India. The establishment of foreign university campuses in the country aligns with the broader objectives of NEP 2020, which aims to make India a global hub for education and to facilitate greater academic collaboration with leading institutions worldwide.

The minister underscored that such initiatives not only bring high-quality education closer to Indian students but also foster deeper cultural and intellectual exchanges between India and other countries. By encouraging top global universities to set up campuses in India, the NEP 2020 seeks to create a more vibrant educational ecosystem that is aligned with international standards.

Jaishankar also stressed that education is a strategic area for India’s future, playing a crucial role in the country’s aspirations to engage more robustly on the global stage. The collaboration with the University of Southampton, he suggested, is a step toward realizing these ambitions, as India continues to leverage education as a means to strengthen its global ties and influence.
