Janmashtami Festivities Draw Massive Crowds; Near-Stampede at Patna ISKCON
New Delhi: Devotees across North and East India came together in large numbers on Monday to celebrate Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna with immense fervor and devotion. Temples in these regions were bustling with activity as worshippers lined up in long queues for the morning aarti, eagerly awaiting the chance to offer their prayers. The air was filled with the devotional chants of ‘Hare Krishna,’ creating an atmosphere of spiritual exuberance.
In Bihar’s Patna, the ISKCON temple became a focal point of the celebrations, drawing an overwhelming crowd of devotees. The massive turnout, however, led to a stampede-like situation, causing injuries to a few devotees. Authorities quickly intervened to manage the situation, ensuring the safety of the worshippers while allowing the festivities to continue.
In Delhi, the celebrations were equally grand. The Laxmi Narayan temple, also known as Birla Mandir, was adorned with dazzling festive lights, transforming the temple into a radiant spectacle. Other temples in the city followed suit, some even incorporating exotic flowers imported from countries like Thailand into their decorations, adding a unique touch to the festivities.
In addition to the traditional rituals, many areas showcased tableaux of Lord Krishna, depicting various scenes from his life. These displays attracted large crowds, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The vibrant celebrations across North and East India reflected the deep reverence and love that devotees hold for Lord Krishna, making Janmashtami a truly memorable occasion this year.
