Javelin Missing from Neeraj Chopra’s Statue in Meerut:

Delhi: A demoralizing incident happened on Sunday night, only one week after Neeraj Chopra, the world champion javelin thrower and Olympic gold medallist, was honoured with a statue near Meerut’s busy Hapur Adda crossing. It was found that a part of the javelin that the statue was holding had either been damaged or stolen. People in the area were stunned when word of this sad incident quickly travelled around the area.

The Meerut police have yet to make progress in the case, despite initial indications of a robbery. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan told the portal, “We are going through all available CCTV footage in the area to track down the culprits and are hopeful to nab the miscreants soon.”

Neeraj Chopra is an Indian javelin thrower who won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He is also the world champion, the Diamond League champion, and the national record holder in his event. He started training in javelin throw at the age of 12 and joined the Indian Army in 2016. He overcame an elbow injury in 2019 and made a comeback in 2021. He became the first track and field athlete and the second individual sportsperson to win an Olympic gold for India. He also became the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin throw.
