Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), unveiles the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard.

Delhi: The Ministry of Tourism of the Government of India, in partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has unveiled the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard. The virtual launch event was presided over by Minister of Tourism, Culture and DONER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy.h Developed under India’s G20 Presidency and with the expertise of UNWTO, this dashboard underscores India’s dedication to sustainable tourism. It showcases exemplary practices, case studies, and insights from G20 nations, all aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This dashboard is a lasting legacy of India’s G20 Presidency, reflecting its commitment to global cooperation and sustainable growth in the tourism industry.

The G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard serves as an extensive online public platform, consolidating the collective knowledge of the G20 Tourism Working Group. It compiles the GOA Roadmap, survey findings, case studies, and best practices from G20 countries. It offers valuable insights into sustainable tourism practices and provides a space for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and advancement. The virtual launch event saw the participation of G20 Member countries, invited nations, international organizations, Indian States & Union Territories, and industry stakeholders.

The event began with opening remarks by the Additional Secretary (Tourism), Government of India, emphasizing the significance of the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard. It was noted that the dashboard aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to make India’s Presidency inclusive, ambitious, and action-oriented. To create a lasting impact from India’s G20 Presidency, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, collaborated with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to establish the G20 Tourism and SDGs Dashboard.

UNWTO expressed its support for the initiative, highlighting that G20 countries represent a substantial portion of global tourism and their leadership in transforming the sector is crucial. The G20 Tourism and SDGs Dashboard is considered a concrete outcome of the G20 Tourism Working Group and a valuable reference tool for all. The highlight of the event was the official launch of the Dashboard by Minister of Tourism, Culture and DONER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, accompanied by a launch video showcasing the efforts and outcomes of the G20 Tourism Working Group and the dashboard’s features.

Union Minister of Tourism, Shri. G. Kishan Reddy, emphasized that the ‘G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard is a testament to our nation’s digital progress and serves as a source of knowledge for global public and private stakeholders. It offers a wealth of knowledge and showcases best practices, all aimed at steering the tourism industry towards greater sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity.’ Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways of India, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, highlighted that the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard aligns perfectly with India’s commitment to leverage digitalization for the betterment of the tourism sector and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Several other dignitaries and industry stakeholders provided their perspectives on this global initiative during the event. In today’s rapidly evolving tourism landscape, the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard will serve as a collaborative knowledge-sharing platform, guiding the global community towards more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism. Its launch signifies a significant milestone in the journey towards achieving the SDGs and underscores the collective commitment of the global community during India’s G20 Presidency.
