National Herald money laundering case: Fresh summons to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi

In a recent development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped up its investigation in the National Herald money laundering case, with former Congress treasurer Pawan Bansal facing questions for the second consecutive day. The focus of the investigation revolves around former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who recorded their statements last year.

The ED is probing his alleged involvement in taking control of the party’s mouthpiece National Herald and its valuable properties in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Lucknow. According to the agency, the estimated value of these properties is more than Rs 800 crore.

Sources suggest that the ED is preparing to issue fresh summons to Sonia and Rahul for further statements, which would indicate the imminent conclusion of the investigation and filing of charges. The investigation raises questions about the legality of the transfer of control and assets to Young Indian, an entity largely controlled by the Gandhi family.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who is closely associated with the Gandhi family, has reiterated that late party treasurer Motilal Vora had knowledge of the transactions related to the acquisition of National Herald by Young Indian.

The ED argues that Young Indian, a non-profit organization allegedly run by the Gandhi family and close associates, was founded with the sole purpose of taking over National Herald and its substantial assets.

The agency has expressed concern over the settlement of a loan of Rs 90 crore for just Rs 50 lakh and the subsequent transfer of assets worth hundreds of crores of rupees to the new entity. The Congress strongly denies any allegations of money laundering, insisting that Young Indian operates as a non-profit organization, raising questions about how individuals, even if majority shareholders, are allowed to negotiate deals. Can benefit from.

As the investigation progresses, a different development is seen in the political scene – a surprise meeting between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Varun Gandhi at the Kedarnath temple. Although the meeting sparked speculation about Varun’s political future, both cousins say it was a warm and cordial exchange with no political discussion. The National Herald case is attracting attention as it combines legal complexities with political dynamics. In the coming days, there may be more twists and turns in this story of financial investigation and political relations.
