Nawaz Sharif blames internal factors for Pakistan’s troubles
New Delhi: In a recent revelation, former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif boldly said that neither India nor the US were the architects of Pakistan’s current challenges. Instead, he candidly admitted, “We shot ourselves in the foot,” subtly blaming the country’s troubles on its powerful military establishment.
Speaking during an interaction with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket contenders, Sharif gave an insight into his checkered political journey, which included being out of the party thrice in 1993, 1999 and 2017. Fell.
Sharif, who was recently acquitted in the Al-Azizia Steel Mill corruption case, has directly blamed internal factors. He accused the army of manipulating the 2018 elections to form a selected government, resulting in economic decline and suffering for the people.
The former prime minister also did not spare the judiciary, criticizing its inconsistency in legitimizing military dictators while supporting the removal of elected prime ministers. He questioned the role of the judiciary in approving the dissolution of Parliament and supporting military rule.
Taking aim at former ISI chief General Faiz Hamid, Sharif directly held him responsible for his 2017 removal. He revealed the existence of a case against those involved, including Hamid, who claimed that his release from prison would undermine his two-year effort.
Despite his checkered political past, Sharif has recently received legal victories, acquitting him in both the Al-Azizia Steel Mill corruption case and the Avenfield corruption case.
Nawaz Sharif’s candid confession and allegations add complexities to the ongoing political discourse in Pakistan. As he prepares himself for a possible return to power, his words resonate, highlighting the complex dynamics between political and military forces in the country.
