PM Modi Criticizes Mamata Banerjee Over Sandeshkhali Incident
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the recent incidents of violence in Sandeshkhali. Speaking at a rally in West Bengal’s Arambag on March 1, PM Modi addressed the issue of Sandeshkhali, saying TMC’s actions towards women in the region have angered the entire nation.
In the rally organized before the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi also highlighted the situation in West Bengal among the achievements of the country. He said, “Amidst the country’s achievements, the entire nation is watching the situation in Bengal. TMC has crossed all limits of indecency with the women of Sandeshkhali. The entire nation is sad and angry with what TMC has done there. “
PM Modi criticized the TMC leadership for their actions, saying they had crossed all limits of decency in Sandeshkhali. He also mentioned the late Raja Ram Mohan Roy and indicated that his soul would be saddened by the incidents at Sandeshkhali. PM Modi emphasized that BJP leaders in the state have fought for the honor and dignity of women.
Apart from this, PM Modi targeted the opposition Bharat Alliance, saying that they did not utter a single word on the Sandeshkhali incident. He criticized the Bharat alliance, calling it a supporter of corruption and dynastic politics.
Last month, several women had accused TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh of sexual harassment in Sandeshkhali. After several weeks of protests, West Bengal Police arrested Shaikh on 29 February. Following this, TMC expelled Shaikh from the party for six years.
PM Modi’s comments underline the rising political tension in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming elections. The BJP sees an opportunity to make inroads in the state by leveraging issues like women’s safety and development to garner support from voters. As the political landscape heats up, West Bengal remains a key battleground, with both the BJP and TMC competing for supremacy in the region.
