PM Modi Honors Partition Victims: A Tribute to Human Resilience
New Delhi: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the victims of the 1947 partition on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, a solemn observance initiated by his government in 2021. This day marks the division of India under British colonial rule, which led to the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim-majority nation. The partition triggered one of the largest mass migrations in history, displacing millions and resulting in widespread violence and loss of life.
In a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi reflected on the enduring impact of the partition, stating, “On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, we recall the countless people who were impacted and greatly suffered due to the horrors of Partition. It is also a day to pay tributes to their courage, which illustrates the power of human resilience. A lot of those impacted by Partition went on to rebuild their lives and attain immense success. Today, we also reiterate our commitment to always protect the bonds of unity and brotherhood in our nation.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the resilience of those who survived the partition and their subsequent efforts to rebuild their lives. He also stressed the importance of unity and brotherhood in maintaining national integrity.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the victims, noting the enduring pain of the partition. He stated, “On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, my homage to the millions who suffered inhumane pains, lost lives, and turned homeless during this most hideous episode of our history.” He further highlighted that remembering this dark chapter is crucial in the nation-building process.
Partition Horrors Remembrance Day serves as a poignant reminder of the tragedies of the past and the strength of the human spirit in overcoming adversity.
