PM Modi lays foundation stone of first international cricket stadium in Varanasi.

Delhi: The international cricket stadium’s foundation stone was laid on Saturday in Varanasi, the prime minister’s parliamentary district.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. PM Modi received an autographed bat from BCCI president Roger Binny and BCCI secretary Jay Shah prior to his address. 

PM Modi declared that the stadium will be devoted to “Mahadev” as he began his address 

with the chant “Har Har Mahadev.”

The stadium’s architectural design will draw inspiration from Lord Shiva, featuring distinctive elements such as trident-shaped floodlights, crescent-shaped roof covers, seating arrangements resembling ghat steps, and Bilvipatra-shaped metallic shaped metallic sheets on the facade,

The stadium will be built in a 30-acre area at a cost of Rs.450 crore. The Uttar Pradesh government said that it has spent Rs.121 crore to acquire the land for the stadium, while the BCCI will spend Rs.330 crore on its construction. The stadium is likely to be completed by December 2025
