Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) – National Mission for Financial Inclusion, completes nine years of successful implementation.

Delhi: Over the course of its existence, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has witnessed significant progress, with more than 50 crore beneficiaries now having bank accounts through the initiative.

The cumulative deposit balances within these PMJDY accounts have reached an impressive sum of Rs. 2,03,505 crore. The number of PMJDY accounts has experienced remarkable growth, increasing by 3.4 times from 14.72 crore accounts in March 2015 to 50.09 crore accounts as of August 16, 2023. It’s notable that approximately 56% of Jan-Dhan account holders are women, showcasing a substantial female participation in the initiative. Additionally, around 67% of Jan Dhan accounts are held in rural and semi-urban areas, underscoring the program’s impact in less urbanized regions. The distribution of RuPay cards has also been substantial, with a total of 33.98 crore RuPay cards issued to PMJDY account holders.
