Tragic Twist: Newly Graduated Medical Student Dies of Snakebite Moments After Convocation
New Delhi: In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 21-year-old medical graduate’s celebration turned into tragedy as he succumbed to a snakebite just after his convocation ceremony. Adit Balakrishnan, hailing from Thrissur, Kerala, had just received his MBBS degree from Sri Siddhartha Medical College near Bengaluru.
The dreadful incident unfolded on the college campus when, returning from the ceremony, Adit was bitten by a venomous snake around 11 pm. Unaware of the snakebite, he reached home with family but collapsed soon after and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he tragically passed away.
Despite the joyous moment of receiving his degree, Adit’s life was cut short due to the venom in his blood, confirmed by an autopsy. The tragedy left the entire college community in mourning. Dr. Prabhakara GN, the college’s vice-principal, expressed shock and condolences, remembering Adit as an exceptional student.
The grief-stricken family, who had come to witness Adit’s achievement, now waits for his father’s return from Italy to perform the last rites. This sudden loss highlights the devastating impact of snakebites, urging more awareness and measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by snakes and the urgency to address this issue to safeguard lives.
