New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh government has canceled the UP Police constable recruitment exam after allegations of paper leak. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who said that the exam will be conducted again within the next six months.
The cancellation has come in the wake of widespread protests by candidates against the alleged paper leak. The examination, which took place in two shifts per day on February 17 and 18, faced scrutiny after reports of irregularities emerged.
In a statement, Chief Minister Adityanath stressed the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the examinations and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for jeopardizing the hard work of the candidates.
The announcement of the cancellation led to celebrations among candidates demanding re-examination, especially in Lucknow’s Eco Garden, the site of ongoing protests. Similar demonstrations took place in other cities across the state including Prayagraj.
Around 48 lakh candidates had applied for 60,244 constable posts. After the cancellation, investigation revealed that 244 persons were arrested for indulging in fraudulent activities during the recruitment examination.
