New Delhi: Ishwar Sharma, a 13-year-old yoga prodigy of Indian origin residing in Sevenoaks, Kent, secured another gold medal at the European Yoga Sports Championship held in Malmo, Sweden. Displaying remarkable skills in the boys’ 12-14 age category, Ishwar’s victory at the Europe Cup 2023 adds to his impressive list of achievements in the field of yoga.
Initiating his yoga journey at the tender age of three, Ishwar, following in his father’s footsteps, has accumulated numerous accolades, including five world championships and the prestigious British Citizen Youth Award at the House of Lords. His dedication to yoga extends beyond personal accomplishments, as he actively led daily yoga classes for 40 children across 14 countries during the lockdown imposed by the pandemic.
Ishwar’s passion for yoga is coupled with a commitment to make the practice accessible, especially for children with special needs, considering his own experiences with autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). His efforts to spread the message of yoga, particularly among special needs children, have earned him recognition and appreciation.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson acknowledged Ishwar’s contributions by presenting him with the Points of Light award during the lockdown. In a personal letter to Ishwar, Johnson praised his ability to bring joy to hundreds of children worldwide through yoga, emphasizing his positive impact on children with special needs.
Beyond his personal accomplishments, Ishwar, alongside his father Dr. Vishwanath, actively promotes yoga’s benefits through their initiative, IYoga Solutions, in the UK. The duo strives to raise awareness about yoga and its positive impact on physical and mental well-being.
