Apple Set to Unveil 2 New iPad Models Next Week: Exciting Upgrades Await
In Brief:
New Delhi: The much-anticipated Apple event on September 9 is not just about the iPhone 16 series. Alongside the new iPhones, Apple is expected to introduce the 11th-generation iPad and the iPad Mini 7. Although Apple hasn’t officially confirmed these releases, it’s been two years since their predecessors were updated, making this event an ideal time for a refresh. Here’s what we might see.
iPad 11th Generation: What’s New?
Apple last updated the iPad in October 2022 with the 10th generation, which featured a new flat-sided design and a variety of colors. It was also the first iPad to include a landscape-oriented front camera. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the focus this time might be on reducing production costs for this entry-level model.
Don’t expect a major redesign or significant technological upgrades. However, a price increase seems likely. The iPhone 16 series is rumored to feature the new A18 chipset, so it’s possible that the iPad 11 could come with the same or at least an A16 chip, seen in the iPhone 15 series. A higher storage option, possibly 128GB, could also be in the cards, which would be a welcome upgrade from the current 64GB base model.
iPad Mini 7: What to Anticipate?
The iPad Mini was last updated in September 2021, with a significant design overhaul, including a flat-edged design, USB-C connectivity, and support for the Pencil 2. However, it lacks some features found in newer iPads, like a landscape-oriented front camera and Apple Pencil Pro support.
The 7th-generation iPad Mini is likely to address these gaps. The A18 chipset is also rumored to power this device, enabling new Apple Intelligence features like the latest Siri, Genmoji, and Image Playground. Storage is expected to double to 128GB, all while maintaining the same starting price of $499 (around Rs 45,900 in India).
New Magic Keyboard
Gurman also mentioned that Apple is working on a new, more affordable Magic Keyboard, specifically designed for these new iPads. Unlike the premium version for the iPad Pro, this budget-friendly option might feature a silicone material instead of aluminum. The release of this keyboard is expected around mid-2025.
