BYD Seal bookings cross 1,000 in under three months
New Delhi: BYD India has announced that its Seal e-sedan, launched on March 5, has garnered over 1,000 bookings within two-and-a-half months. The company reported that it received 200 bookings within the first week of opening on February 28, and the first 500 bookings were achieved within 15 days of the launch.
Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice-President of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business at BYD India, stated: “The phenomenal response to the BYD Seal, surpassing 1,000 bookings in just over two months, is a testament to the growing appetite for high-performance and stylish electric vehicles in the Indian market.”
BYD India has announced that its Seal e-sedan, launched on March 5, has surpassed 1,000 bookings within two-and-a-half months. Prices for the Seal start at Rs 41 lakh for the entry-level Dynamic variant and go up to Rs 53 lakh for the top-spec Performance AWD variant. This milestone is significant given BYD’s relatively small presence in India and the fact that the Seal is a Completely Built Unit (CBU). For comparison, Hyundai received 650 orders for the Ioniq 5 two-and-a-half months after its bookings opened in December 2022, at a price of Rs 44.95 lakh. The Seal is BYD’s third model in India, following the e6 MPV and Atto 3 SUV. It is available with two battery options: 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh, both featuring BYD’s patented blade technology. The Dynamic variant, with the smaller battery, powers a 204hp, 310Nm motor on the rear axle, offering a claimed range of 510km (NEDC cycle). The Premium and Performance variants come with the larger 82.5kWh battery. The Premium variant features a 312hp, 360Nm motor on the rear axle with a 650km claimed range. The Performance variant boasts a 530hp, 670Nm dual-motor AWD setup, with a 580km claimed range and a 0-100kph sprint time of just 3.8 seconds.
BYD dealers indicate that customers booking their Seal today can expect delivery within two months, regardless of the variant or battery option chosen. The Seal supports charging speeds of up to 150kW, achieving 10-80 percent charge in 37 minutes, while a regular 11kW AC charger takes 8.6 hours for a full charge. The vehicle also features Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging, suitable for camping and outdoor activities. BYD offers an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty on the battery and an 8-year/1,50,000 km warranty on the motor and motor controller. In FY2024, with retail sales of 1,770 units, BYD ranked fifth among Indian electric car and SUV manufacturers. BYD India currently operates 24 showrooms across 21 cities.
