India’s 5 Million Unit Sales Club: Surprise Car Revealed!
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki’s Alto has achieved a remarkable feat in India’s automotive history by surpassing 5 million units in sales, a milestone no other car has reached. Despite stiff competition from popular models like the Hyundai i10 and Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Alto remains unmatched in its long-standing dominance. Launched in 2000, the Alto has consistently held the title of India’s best-selling car for an impressive 17 years, showcasing its enduring popularity among consumers.
Originally introduced as the Alto 800 in 2000, the model was later joined by the Alto K10 in 2010. While the Alto 800 was discontinued in March 2023 due to challenges in upgrading to comply with BS6 Phase 2 norms, the Alto K10 continues to be a strong contender in the market.
Powered by a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine, the Alto K10 delivers 67PS of power and 89Nm of torque, with the option of a CNG variant producing 57PS of power and 82Nm of torque. Available with both manual and automatic transmission options, the Alto K10 offers versatility to meet diverse consumer preferences.
With a starting price of Rs 3.99 lakh, the Alto K10 competes against rivals like the Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in the entry-level hatchback segment. Despite the evolution of the automotive landscape, the Alto’s legacy as a quintessential Indian car remains unparalleled.
