National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) reviews situation in Sikkim

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), led by Cabinet Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba, convened today to assess the situation in Sikkim.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary of Sikkim participated via video conference and briefed the committee on the current state of affairs. He also outlined the relief and rescue efforts undertaken by the State government. The Home Secretary informed the committee that the Central Government is closely monitoring the situation around the clock, with both control rooms of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) actively engaged in monitoring and offering assistance.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already dispatched three teams, and additional teams are on standby in Guwahati and Patna. The Army and Air Force are also mobilizing teams and resources to support rescue and recovery operations in the state.

In the review of relief and rescue efforts by both Central Agencies and the Sikkim Government, Cabinet Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba emphasized the need to prioritize the evacuation of people stranded in the Chungthang dam tunnel and tourists. He further stressed the deployment of additional NDRF teams and the swift restoration of road, telecom, and power connectivity.

The Cabinet Secretary provided assurance to the Government of Sikkim that all Central agencies are prepared and available to provide assistance as required.
