New Delhi: Ola has announced a significant strategic shift by replacing Google Maps and Microsoft Azure with its own in-house developed Ola Maps and cloud solutions. This move is projected to save the company an impressive Rs 100 crore annually. Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola, shared on Twitter that the company previously spent Rs 100 crore per year on Google Maps services. By transitioning to Ola Maps this month, they have effectively reduced this cost to zero. Aggarwal emphasized that this transition aligns with Ola’s long-term vision of self-reliance and technological innovation.
“After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited google maps. We used to spend Rs100 cr a year but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in house Ola maps! This will provide users with better and more detailed maps, enhancing their overall experience.
For those curious about how Ola built its maps, Aggarwal said they will publish a detailed blog post this weekend. This blog will explain what parts of Ola Maps were built in-house and which parts came from open-source resources.
