Realme Developing 300W Fast-Charging Technology, Top Executive Confirms
New Delhi: The Realme GT Neo 5, launched in February last year, featured up to 240W fast charging support, capable of charging the battery from zero to 100 percent in under 10 minutes. Now, the Chinese tech brand is advancing its charging technology further. A senior Realme executive has confirmed that the company is developing 300W fast charging for upcoming smartphone models. This move comes in response to a similar development by its major rival, Xiaomi, which showcased its 300W fast charging technology last year.
In an interview with YouTube channel The Tech Chap, Francis Wong, CEO of Realme Europe and Global Marketing Director, confirmed that Realme is testing 300W charging technology. This development aims to position Realme competitively against rivals like Xiaomi, which is also advancing similar fast-charging technologies. Redmi demonstrated 300W charging in February last year using a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition with a 4,100mAh battery, which charged fully in less than five minutes. However, a smartphone with 300W fast charging support has yet to be released.
Currently, Realme offers 240W charging in the Realme GT Neo 5, which can charge its 4,600mAh battery from zero to 20 percent in 80 seconds, to 50 percent in four minutes, and to 100 percent in less than 10 minutes. A 30-second charge can provide up to two hours of talk time. The Realme GT Neo 5 debuted at an initial price of CNY 3,199 (approximately Rs. 39,000), featuring a 6.74-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It also includes a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and up to 1TB of storage. Other notable fast-charging phones currently on the market include the iQoo 11S (200W), Infinix Zero Ultra 5G (180W), and Realme GT Neo 3 (150W). However, forthcoming Realme and Redmi (or Xiaomi) models are poised to exceed these charging speeds.
